There Are Many Causes of Halitosis

There are various causes of halitosis and luckily there are also some easy solutions to deal with these problems. People always think that mouth fresheners are the best way to deal with bad breath but this is not always the case. There are certain simple steps that people could take to deal with the causes in order to have long lasting results.

Causes of Halitosis: Bad habits

The most common causes are bad habits. People often forget to brush their teeth after eating and leave food particles between their teeth. Under the action of bacteria these particles give out foul odors which give rise to bad breath. The simple act of brushing your teeth and flossing them regularly should help deal with this problem and leave you with a normal breath.

Other causes stems out from another bad habit. People do not drink enough water. People that have a dry mouth often have a bad breath and the best way to deal with this problem is that you make sure that you drink an adequate amount of water.

As we have seen not all the causes of halitosis are beyond control. People having a bad breath should make sure that they change their bad habits by making sure that they brush and floss their teeth regularly and also drink plenty of water. It is not a difficult thing to do but change as we all know is sometime a painful process.

Metabolic Causes of Halitosis

There are also some disorders in the body that may act as causes of halitosis. One such condition is diabetes. This disease can cause the build up of ketone (smelly chemicals found in the body) in the blood. This happens when the body burns fat instead of carbohydrate to get energy. One way that ketone is eliminated naturally from the body is through exhaled breath. When ketosis is the cause then a dentist cannot treat it on his own and that is why he will surely refer the patient to a doctor to get specialist treatment. That is why it is always important to consult a doctor in the case of bad breath to make sure that there are no serious medical conditions that are acting as causes.

Changes in the diet can also act as causes of halitosis. People that are fasting or are on a protein diet can also suffer from ketosis. When people try to lose weight rapidly they use fat as energy and this encourages the build up of ketone in the blood. You should not be surprised that you have a bad breath if you are on a diet or you are fasting.

If you want to avoid the problem of ketosis while on a diet you should make sure that you are being followed by qualified experts in the field of nutrition.
